TAiga
In the dense crystal forests of Darea, a World of Snow and Ice, are usually found the usual animals; foxes, rabbits, deer and all the other Animals. However, in some sections of the forests, there is a creature that lives nowhere else in this World. Hike and storytellers call them Taiga, which translated means 'large'. They resemble a horse, at least at first glance. Not to mention that they project an adult with their size, they are very long too. The tail is as long as their body itself and at the end you will find cozy, long fur. The long and muscular legs are encased in soft fur, which encase the hooves and protect the sensitive skin underneath. They should not be ridden. One would think that because of their size and the powerful legs they should withstand heavy loads, but the back is not able to carry those. If you still would load things on it, you would damage the back and thus pave the creature pain.
A feature of the creature is a small, crystalline horn that has its place at the front of the forehead. It is said, that in the crystal, the memories of the ancestors are inherent. Whether this is the truth, is largely unknown. One has noticed, however, that, should the crystal shatter, it seems that the taiga remembers nothing anymore. But with every new experience it is gaining, the crystal grows as if it were a living part of the body. Especially, it was found that the creatures, who have lost their horn, behave like the young of their kind, because those are born without a horn and are very shy. The horn itself, which falls to the ground, is growing to a new tree of the crystal forest.
The horn and mane comes in different variations.

Titan
Personality: Titan believes in helping others. At one time he thought that life was only about finding a life-mate and leading a family, but now, after having saved the lives of others once or twice he has found joy in helping. He will do so where-ever and whenever he can.
Entry Story:
Titan slowly loped over his territory: it was a wide expanse of the crystal forest in a valley very near a mountain range. The wind blew mournfully through the nearly empty waste. Titan lived alone except for the regular woodland creatures that had inhabited his forest long before he had claimed it. But however lonely it might have been, he'd known from the beginning that he would protect it and all its inhabitants with his life. It was amazing how attached he was to it since he had only lived there a short time. It wasn't long ago at all since he had come across this beautiful, but lonely place. He was a young Taiga, as age goes, and had only just started his bachelor life, having been sent off by his sire to discover the world and his own fortune. He had been excited to go, feeling the adventurous tug that most young Taiga feel as they out-grow the restraint of their parents' rule. Now he looked with pride on the land he had claimed for his own. He remembered that at first he had decided to pass this place by, seeing that it was remote and the likelihood of a mare passing by was very small. However, something had stopped him; some twist in his horn and then his soul. He felt a strange longing to remain, to attach himself to this place. A faded feeling of having found home gently but firmly urged him to make this his territory and after some indecision, he finally gave in. It was possible some ancestor of his was speaking to him through his horn, perhaps this had served someone in his past and would do so for him again. Now, not more than a few months later, the young Taiga serenely observed the beautiful tranquility of his new home and felt proud of it, but at the same time, he felt a tug of loneliness. Not many young male Taiga would choose to live alone for very long. They would usually find a band of other bachelors to horse around with until they grew experienced enough and strong enough to impress a mare to be their life partner. But Titan had settled down early and saw, with some apprehension that he might have to live his whole life alone. However, the ancients would not have this be his fate. They had a purpose for pulling him here and that purpose was soon revealed! As Titan continued staring off into the distance, he suddenly had his eye caught by something to the right. From his high place, Titan was able to observe most of his territory, despite the trees and bushes. He now observed a large figure roaming his forest and a tightening of his heart told him that it was the form of a Taiga. However, the moment of longing evaporated as he realized there was an intruder on his territory! With a snort of exhilarated rage, he charged down the other side of his observation ledge(as he had named it) and tore through the forest towards the other Taiga. He whinnied a challenge as he entered the small break in trees where he found a mare and foal staring up at him, the mare preparing to defend her precious foal with every last ounce of strength she had. But there was no need. Titan shut himself up, mid-whinny, and stood there, utterly taken aback by the presence of a female in his forest which he had thought was impossible. When she continued to stare up at him defiantly, though, he shook his head and mane trying to get his act together. He realized that he hadn't made much of a good impression on her, though perhaps his toughness would impress her. He stood tall, blessing the fact that his mother had always said he had grown bigger than other Taigas usually did. He hoped that instead of frightening the young female, then he would perhaps impress her as being strong enough to protect her. Unfortunately for Titan it did neither: the poor mare had just run away through a pass in the mountains from the side of her dead mate. She had barely made it, what with a wobbly foal to keep alive beside her, and now only wanted a quiet place to forget her grief. She would have knocked the horn off her head by ramming it into the side of the mountain wall, but she still needed her memories for her foal's sake. And now this show-off buck was trying to take the place of her mate. With a whinny of anger and annoyance, she rejected his advance and turned away with her foal. It was then that they all heard a sharp bang! and saw the side of a tree near the foal explode! The hunters who had killed the mare's mate for his precious horn and fur were now after the mare and foal themselves! A terrified scream escaped the mare and she charged into the forest, the foal trying to follow after her. However, the brush was just too thick for his wobbly legs and she had to come back to help him. Bang! Bang! Now the hunters had seen Titan who'd been standing there, trying to get his wits to work. He had had several silent months in his peaceful forest and now there was a mare and foal to protect from human hunters! With another shake he turned to face the enemy and that was when it happened: He knew what to do! Having had the leisure time to explore his territory thoroughly added to the fact that he may have had some help from past experiences not his own, Titan knew all of the low places and darkest parts of his forest. He weaved through the trees with surprising grace considering he large bulk. Within moments, he had made his way behind the humans who had lost him in a dark patch of woods. They were trying to follow his trail and were just realizing that he had snuck around behind them when he blasted into them at a charging pace, smashing his chest against the soft flesh and rearing in the middle of them. He was so tall and fierce looking, his dark form outlined by the little light that filtered through the trees, that the men screamed. Some of them had dropped their guns, and the one man who still had his couldn't aim right with all the shifting shadows that flickered about him. Then one man got a kick in his side as Titan's flailing hooves fell. The man yowled in pain and then made a break for the pass from which he came. The other men followed, thinking that Titan would leave them alone; but no! With a whinny of rage and triumgh, Titan charged after them! They were only just able to stumble through the pass before Titan could reach them. Then, unable to follow, again due to his size, Titan decided that at least he could stop them from returning with more of their troublesome kind. He reared his large bulk again and slammed his hooves onto a boulder that looked as if it would fall anyway if someone pushed it. It did, and started a chain reaction. Boulder fell on boulder, creating a huge landslide. From the distance, on the very ledge from which Titan had first seen her, the mare took a moment to rest and watched in surprised horror as Titan chased the men through the pass, and then as the mountain seemed to crumble down on top of him! She felt a tugging pain in her chest as she thought that her and her baby's savior was now dead. And then she saw a dark shadow emerge from the thick dust clouds and Titan stepped out of the mess slowly with only a slight limp from having gotten his hoof knocked around by some stray boulders. No, the mare did not stay with Titan, but to show her gratitude, she told his story to all who would listen of the mighty stallion who had risked his life for her and her foal. He became legend and many a Taiga would come to his forest to see the landslide and more importantly, the stallion who had moved mountains. Now he was referred to as The Titan Who Moved a Mountain and he is almost never alone unless he wants to be. He treats his guests cordially since he has nothing to fear of anyone trying to steal his territory. Titan is respected and loved and when he is ready, he will have no difficulty in finding a mate. | Character © PixieStoryteller (me!) |

Shale
Personality: Shale is a very quiet, shy male. He likes being around other Taiga and tries to help where he can, but he can be clumsy and is very embarrassed by this fact. He stutters when he talks sometimes and feels even more embarrassed when that happens. He will often begin to express his opinion on things in order to take part in the conversation and not seem stuck-up only to have his voice fade away as he stumbles through his limited language.
Often feeling as if he is annoying others, he will remain on the outside of the herd looking longingly in, feeling that at least there he can be out of everyone's way. | Character © PixieStoryteller (me!) |
